What Can You Make With A Cricut?

A frequent question I see regarding Cricut machines is, “what can I make with a Cricut?” I think the better question is: what can’t you do with a Cricut?! I mention ALL the time how I use my Cricut Explore Air 2 for everything. It would be a rare day if my Cricut didn’t make an appearance.

To understand what you can make with a Cricut, it is helpful to know what types of materials the Cricut can cut. Right out of the box, you can see that the dial on the Cricut Explore Air 2, has settings to perfectly cut through:

  • Paper
  • Vinyl
  • Iron-on
  • Light Cardstock
  • Cardstock
  • Bonded Fabric
  • Poster Board

The “Custom” setting is where it gets interesting though. The Cricut Explore Air 2 can cut 100 different materials, using the custom setting. Some of my favorite materials to use have been: freezer paper (using the parchment paper setting), holographic sparkle vinyl, Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets, and printable vinyl

I have a couple different Cricut cutting machines, but the one I use most is the Cricut Explore Air 2.  The Cricut Explore Air 2 differs slightly from the the newer Cricut model, the Cricut Maker, in that the Maker can easily cut materials such as balsa wood and unbonded fabric. However, the Cricut Explore Air 2 can easily cut through cardstock or poster board that can be used as a stencil for cutting wood or fabric.

Now that you know which materials you can cut with the Cricut, take a look at how you can use those materials to create more projects than you could ever dream of!

What You Can Make With A Cricut

Vinyl Car Decals seem to be amongst the most popular projects made with the Cricut! All you need is some permanent vinyl and you can quickly cut and apply decals to customize your vehicle.

Iron-On t-shirts, baby bodysuits, and totes seem to be a close second for most popular items created with a Cricut. The girls’ school does SO MANY spirit days/weeks, and I love having the convenience of cutting out Iron-On Vinyl at home and being able to send them to school in a custom shirt the following day!

Welcome Mats

My favorite most recent project is the welcome mat that I made for our new home! I used the Custom parchment paper setting to cut out freezer paper, then used my Cricut EasyPress to secure the freezer paper stencil to a blank mat. I’ve also done the same project using a a cardstock stencil, and I’ll say I liked the freezer paper much better!

Etched Glasses

Etched Glasses are a favorite gift of mine to give! They have a more classic look over vinyled glasses, and the etched design is completely waterproof and dishwasher safe. Etched glasses are also incredibly easy to make. If you can apply vinyl to a glass, you can etch a glass. Simply cut a stencil out of removable vinyl, ensure that it’s attached well to the glass, and brush on etching cream.

Planner Stickers

Stickers of all varieties are simple to make with Cricut’s Print then Cut function! Planner stickers are my favorite type of stickers to make (check out all of my templates >> FREE printable planner stickers). I also have a pretty easy TikTok tutorial for quickly making return address labels. I absolutely LOVE Cricut’s Printable Vinyl for all of my sticker projects. It has a silky smooth feel, and the colors always print so vibrantly!

Coasters

Coasters are another fantastic gift that could pair perfectly with those etched glasses I mentioned before! Cricut Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets + Cricut Infusible Ink Blanks. By using Infusible Ink with Infusible Ink Blanks, you can create 100% permanent projects that will last forever with no edges and no lift.
