Weekend Rewind

Thank you all so much for all of the sweet comments in response to our baby announcement. I am very slowly getting around to responding.

The husband got to join me at the hospital on Friday for one of my two appointments, which was nice. Especially since the girls were in tow.

My first appointment was the physical with my OB. The appointment was scheduled for 10:45 am, and at 11:30 am, panic set in. The girls were in a daycare down stairs, however the daycare breaks for lunch from 12:00-1:00 so they needed to be out of there by then. I knew there was no way I’d make it in time, so I ran down stairs and brought them back up with me before being called back at noon. Normally, I would have been annoyed, but sitting alone in the waiting room for an hour and a half was glorious! There were some other ladies waiting for the same doctor, and they commented that he was totally worth the wait. They were so right.

Aside from being called “kiddo” a couple times. I completely loved my doctor! He was really kind and patient with V and Adri, and even tried to explain stuff to them in terms that they could understand. He did a quick ultrasound, and even showed the girls where all the little body parts were on the baby. Lucky for me, I’ll get to see him every time, which is usually pretty rare in military hospitals. Yay for being high-risk! And because he’s a doctor and all, and not very good with numbers, there’s a possibility that he might slip up and accidentally give me my maternity parking pass a few weeks early. Oopsies.

Hubster got there late, and was waiting in the waiting room. When we were all done with the appointment, we went down stairs for lunch. Because the first appointment was running so late, we had just enough time to eat, drop the girls back off at the daycare, and then make it back upstairs for my ultrasound…which was also running late.

After waiting another 45 minutes, Hubster and I were finally called back to see our littlest munchkin. It was a busy little creature and kept moving it’s legs and arms all over. Even though this is my third go around, I didn’t realize that there were little appendages this early on, but there are! Towards the end of appointment, after confirming that I was exactly 12 weeks along, the ultrasound tech asked if we were interested in knowing the gender of the baby. She said it wasn’t guaranteed, but even at this stage of development, there are indicators. EEK! We’ll have to wait until the 20 weeks appointment to know for sure.

On Saturday we walked the big mall with some of our friends. I was finally able to buy the only pair of shorts currently on the island of Oahu. Before coming here, I figured you could find shorts year-round at every store, but that’s not the case at all. Currently, there are plenty of sweaters and jackets available, and I have no idea why. Miami doesn’t even do that, and they actually have cold days.

My neighbors hosted a yesterday, for the neighbors to get to know each other. It was a really nice event, and it was nice getting to know everyone who lives on our block. So far, I have really enjoyed living on post. In the past, I’ve never had neighbors introduce themselves, much less host a get together for all of the neighbors to mingle.

All in all, a very exciting weekend for the four and a half of us. Today I am going to attempt to put together a good shopping list, and see if I can get my grocery shopping done for the next two weeks. The commissary is normally packed to the brim, so I’m going to try my best to do all of my future shopping on the day before pay day. Hopefully, some advance planning can save me from waiting in line for half an hour.

Love, Alex

  1. I liked living on base when I was younger. We always had friends. I’ve told Mac that I’m willing to live on post wherever we end up going.

  2. That is a lot of waiting around!! You have the patience of a saint! I have never been to a doctor on base before, but that wait sounded crazy!! Glad you got to see the nugget though, so exciting!

  3. Sounds like the doc was really worth the wait — that’s awesome! And the fact that the hospital has a daycare available?! Thats even better!!
