Homemade dog treats are totally my jam! I especially love that these gelatin dog treats are made with smaller amounts of chicken broth and pumpkin puree, making them perfect for finishing up any unused bits of ingredients. Maybe an entire can of pumpkin leftover from a homemade pumpkin spice latte?!

While you’re sipping that homemade latte, these treats are simple to mix together. I combined ingredients right inside a microwaveable measuring cup for fewer dishes and easy pouring into the mold.

Silicone molds are perfect for this type of treat, since they allow you to pop the gelatin right out. However, if you’re struggling with removing the treats from your mold, try popping them into the freezer for about 20 minutes.

Of course, if you’d prefer frozen treats, these CAN be left in the freezer longer to freeze– which also works if you make too many treats and need to save some for later. But this time of year, I like to offer something cool, but not necessarily freezing!

Benefits of Pumpkin Gelatin Dog Treats

Gelatin is made of collagen which is a protein substance. Collagen helps repair cartilage and also strengthens the tendons, ligaments and muscles. The small amount of gelatin in these treats will do more for smaller dogs than larger ones, but a little bit is better than none.

REMEMBER: this recipe calls for plain unflavored gelatin powder, NOT flavored Jello, which may contain harmful ingredients.

If using a homemade stock/broth, it may contain an additional amount of gelatin. Just be sure that whatever broth you’re using, it doesn’t contain garlic, onion, or other ingredients not suited for dogs.

Pumpkin puree is another beneficial ingredient in these treats for dogs. Pumpkin contains all sorts of vitamins and minerals. The fiber in pumpkin can help with digestion and improve diarrhea. Again, make sure to only use plain pumpkin puree, not something like canned pie mix.

As always, it’s best to check with your vet before feeding human food to your pet!
