Frozen Guava Margarita Recipe

A frozen guava margarita is a fruity and refreshing tropical take on a classic favorite. Made with guava nectar and tequila, these margaritas are so quick and easy to make! Don’t forget the Tajin for a chili-lime salted rim!

In preparation for Cinco de Mayo on a #TacoTuesday, I’ve been perfecting my margarita recipe. Oh, the sacrifices I make for this blog. I’m not a huge fan of classic margaritas, but with a fruity, tropical twist, I am ALL there!

Guava has always been a favorite fruit, and since I wanted to stick with a true tropical and Mexican-inspired margarita flavor, it’s what I went with for these ultimate frozen margaritas. My favorite guava products aren’t always easy to find in traditional grocery stores, but guava nectar has always been available at all of our grocery stores no matter where in the country we lived.

Over the last few weeks, John and I have been experimenting trying to find the best combinations to create the perfect margarita. We’ve come a long way! I started out with an AWFUL cheap tequila, and not nearly enough of it. We’ve upped the ounces and upgraded to a better tequila.

Guava Margarita Ingredients

So what tequila is best for making margaritas? Well, my preference is a decent mid-shelf silver tequila. You don’t want to waste the top-shelf stuff, as it will be masked by other flavors, but definitely don’t settle for the bottom of the barrel stuff. I like 1800. It’s a reasonably priced tequila with a smooth taste.

When it comes to the guava, you want to make sure you’re using a guava nectar. Guava juice will do in a pinch, but the nectar has a thicker consistency, and doesn’t get masked as easily when mixed. Using guava nectar will also guarantee a brighter more vibrant cocktail.

And now that we’ve covered the important basic margarita ingredients, I have to make a recommendation for the perfect salted rim: Tajin. Tajin is a chili, lime, and salt seasoning. Lots of people love to sprinkle it on fruit such as mango. I love it on the rim of my margarita glass!
