How to Make Whipped Coffee

Whipped coffee, also known as cloud coffee or Dalgona coffee is a smooth and velvety coffee treat that is taking social media by storm! It’s fairly easy to make this coffeehouse drink at home with just a few simple ingredients. 

I don’t know about the other parents out there, but this new homeschool gig that we’ve got going on is tough. I mean, I’m not even doing most of the work, as the teachers have started practicing in our digital classrooms, but coordinating the chaos between three kiddos is no walk in the park! By early afternoon, I’m ready for a little pick me up.

Just last week I discovered the delicious treat known as cloud or whipped coffee in an Aldi Facebook group. Almost like an upside down latte, this coffee drink has a fluffy topping made with whipped instant coffee on top and milk on the bottom. 

With only a few ingredients, whipped cloud coffee is fairly easy to make. But there is one catch. You’ve gotta whip it; whip it good! All it takes is: instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk. For a little bit of extra flavor, I love to drizzle a little chocolate inside the glass! After an extra long day, you could potentially add a shot of vodka.

I’ve been using my KitchenAid stand mixer with the whisk attachment to whip the coffee, and it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. You could absolutely do this by hand, but I imagine it could take a while longer. You sure would build those muscles though!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons hot water
  • 1 cup milk
  • Chocolate syrup, optional

Instructions

  1. Add instant coffee, sugar, and hot water to a bowl. Use a mixer or whisk to beat the mixture, until it produces a light and fluffy foam (approximately 5-10 minutes at a high speed with a stand mixer).
  2. Pour milk into a glass, drizzle the glass with chocolate syrup, if desired. Top the milk with the whipped coffee mixture.
  3. Stir the whipped coffee into the milk before enjoying!
