Valentine Oreos & Oreo Krispies Treats
While I was photographing the Oreo Krispies Treats, a few weeks ago, I did a little experimenting with a few extra ingredients I had on hand. It was super easy to turn that one dessert into two additional festive treats! All it took was some extra Oreo Krispies Treat ingredients, a tube of cookie icing, and sprinkles.
Best of all, the colors of the icing and sprinkles can easily be changed, to go along with any holiday! For now, I’m focusing on Valentine’s Day by using red icing and heart sprinkles.
Decorated Oreo Krispies Treats
Chocolate dipped Rice Krispies Treats are popular all over Pinterest, but for the life of my I CANNOT ever get my chocolate to melt properly. No matter how little or how much I heat the chocolate, it’s always just way too thick! Switching out the melted chocolate for a simple pre-made icing is the key for me!
I bought a tube of Betty Crocker cookie icing at the grocery store. When opening the package, I made sure to cut just the very tip of it, to ensure a thin stream of frosting. Remember, you can always cut a little more if you’re not satisfied with the thickness.
Decorating the Oreo Krispies Treats was as simple and “scribbling” the icing back and forth across each slice of treat. Top with an assortment of sprinkles, and you’re good to go! Easy peasy!
The nice this about this Betty Crocker icing is that it “sets,” so you won’t have it running all over the place and you can stack the treats without a mess!
Valentine Sprinkle Oreos
Decorating the Oreos was a fun little bonus that John suggested when I finished up with the other treats! The Becky Crocker tip on the icing is narrow enough, that it fit perfectly between the two cookies. I like my Oreos regular, but this would probably be even easier with Double Stuf or Mega Stuf cookies.
For these, all I did was fill the space between both cookies with icing, then dip the edges in a variety of sprinkles.
