We all know the famous saying, “Welcome to Miami,” right? And what’s not to love about Miami? Good weather, plenty of activities, and some amazing places to shop and dine. But when it comes to finding kid-friendly things to do in Miami, are there really that many options out there?

You’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that there are actually a TON of really great family-friendly places to visit in Miami, FL beyond the beach. If you are looking for some suggestions of a few places that are a must to visit that are totally kid-friendly, here are a few for you to consider.

  • Miami Seaquarium: The Seaquarium is a personal fave from my childhood and the girls love it too! Play with a dolphin, hang out with some penguins or even swim with the seals? All possibilities when you and your kids visit this amazing aquarium. Activities await and are certain to keep your kids smiling for hours upon hours!

  • Venetian Pool: Not only did this pool start out as a rock quarry, it is actually drained and filled daily during the busier months. The cool part is that once it’s drained, it’s filled back up with spring water from the ground…how amazing is that? This pool is truly something that you and your family should see. While they don’t allow children under the age of 3, it is a kid-friendly place for your older children that they are sure to love!
  • Everglades National Park: No matter if you want to camp, bike, hike, or just relax the day bird watching in this beautiful park, there is something for every member of your family to do here. Spending the day out in nature and enjoying everything that it has to offer is truly special and is a perfect kid-friendly destination to explore!
  • Miami Children’s Museum:  No kid-friendly visit to Miami would be complete without a trip to the Miami Children’s Museum! Packed full of exhibits and education, your children are certain to have a great time exploring everything that this museum has to offer. I even have a great time visiting this museum!
  • Cool de Sac: Looking for a way to relax and also encourage the creative side of your child’s imagination? If so, Cool de Sac is exactly what you are looking for. Plus, with a restaurant and coffee area on site, you won’t have to leave to get some food. Bonus!
  • Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park: Voted to have one of the “Top 10 Beaches in the US”, a visit to this state park is a must. Not only does it have a beautiful beach, you and your kids can also take a hike up inside the lighthouse as well while you are visiting. Talk about an amazing view from way high in the sky!
  • Zoo Miami: Who doesn’t want to spend the day with several THOUSAND different kinds of animals? Your kids are certain to have a blast exploring and learning about all the varying species of animals that the zoo has to offer. And a cool and unique fact? It’s the only sub-tropical zoo in the entire US!


  • Jungle Island: This eco-adventure park is located between Downtown Miami and South Beach near the Miami Children’s Museum. It’s the perfect stop for families leaving on or returning from cruises looking to kill a few hours. You’ll find an outdoor wind tunnel, zip lines, escape rooms, and even a Nerf battle stadium amongst the thousands of animals!
  • Pinecrest Gardens: Speaking of Jungle Island, Pinecrest Gardens in the former home of Jungle Island aka Parrot Jungle when I was growing up. This charming park has it all from a petting zoo to a splash pad and play ground. There is plenty of shaded area for a relaxing walk. They also hold a pet-friendly farmer’s market on Sundays.

No matter what kid-friendly activities that you and your children are looking for, you are certain to find a ton of great options in Miami. Have your children do their own research and make a list of places that they are hoping to visit, and start planning ahead to see if you can make it happen.

Keep in mind that going during the summer months will ensure that there will be long lines and lots of crowds! If you have the ability to visit during an “off” time, you’ll stand a better chance of getting to do more kid-friendly activities.
