Our Spring Break

Phew! We survived spring break! The girls went back to school yesterday and I’m back to getting the house in order.

I’ve gotta hand it to John. He did a fantastic job planning out a fun-filled break for all of us! You’ve already seen the grown up fun and our little trip on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, so here’s a look at the parts that the kids got to enjoy!

Between our first and second day of bourbon touring, we spent a day at the Kentucky Horse Park. Although they were supposed to be back to normal operating hours, it seemed like they were still running on a winter schedule. Either way, we had a bunch of fun seeing the horses.

Before heading over to the park, John looked up a schedule of activities and shows and mapper out our day. Luckily, upon purchasing our tickets, we were handed a map with the schedule printed on it. They way they have it set up works perfectly, and allows you to go from show to show without much overlap or down time.

The one downfall is that sometimes there was A LOT of walking. It’s a huge park and shows/activities were sometimes on opposite ends. It also looked like there was only one show/activity happening at a time, so if it was something you weren’t necessarily interested in, you were out of luck.

Throughout the day, the girls got to ride in a horse-drawn carriage, see some Kentucky Derby winners, help groom horse, and go on a pony ride. It seemed like the perfect amount of activity to keep them engaged throughout the day.

Because the on-site restaurant hasn’t opened back up yet, we left the park for lunch at a stockyard. I had no clue what a stockyard was prior to going, but I sure do now! We sat at the window in the little stock yard restaurant and watched cowboys and cowgirls walk through the building. There was even a screen in the restaurant that showed what was being sold/auctioned at the time. It wouldn’t surprise me if my burger had walked off of a trailer that morning. Too morbid?

Back at the hotel that evening, we had snacks and drinks before heading to the pool. It has been a long while since the girls have had so much pool time. It was probably the highlight of their entire trip.

Back home from our trip to Lexington, we had plenty of movie nights, along with a movie day on post. It was my first time watching Wonder. We were in the library, which wasn’t exactly dark, so I did my best to hide my tears.

On Saturday we went to see Disney on Ice in Louisville. It’s probably been 25 years since I’ve seen a Disney on Ice show, and this one was fantastic! I’m pretty sure Adam Rippon was there dressed as a spoon in the Be Our Guest scene. LOL kidding. Juli was a little disappointed that the show didn’t have “Awana,” but her second favorite, Rapunzel was there.
