Super Simple Slow Cooker Dog Food Recipe

The day I realized my dog was older than me was just about the saddest day ever. Caesar has been around through every deployment or TDY and has always served as my security blanket when John has left. I’ve raised him from the time he was an itty bitty little rotten puppy, and now he’s my lazy old man.

As of late, I’ve noticed him slowing down a bit. I mean, he isn’t that old, but he’s certainly getting up there in age. This cold weather might have something to do with it as well. I know I’ve been grumpier than usual. Either way, his health has become more of an important focus for me.

Recently, I’ve learned about the benefits of homemade food. Caesar’s been a bit reluctant to eat his dry dog food as it is, so I figured we could give it a try! After plenty of research, I came up with a slow cooker dog food recipe with ingredients that would appeal and benefit his well being.

All of the ingredients simply get tossed into the slow cooker while we’re prepping the rest of our meals for the week, and by dinner time, we have a week’s worth of homemade dog food for Caesar. I keep it pretty simple, with chicken breasts, white rice, frozen peas & carrots, and frozen butternut squash, all from Meijer.

While we’re at Meijer, I also grab Milk-Bone Brushing Chew Dental Treat and Milk-Bone Pill Pouches. Right now, each of these items is $1 off with the Meijer MPerks offers! You can save 1$ on any Milk-Bone Advanced Care product for up to $3 in savings through 4/28/2018.

The Milk-Bone Brushing Chews have played a huge part in keeping Caesar’s smile bright and healthy. Even the vet was impressed with the great condition of his teeth, considering his age. And well the pill pockets; those are great for those pesky anxiety pills that we sometimes have to deal with.
