What’s Been Going On
Hello wonderful humans! How is it going on this wonderful hump day?!
We had quite the exciting weekend! The family joined up with some of our friends from Hawaii for a little camping and Oktoberfest celebration!
Our weekend started when we dropped Caesar off for boarding at a local kennel. This place was AMAZING! I mean, I would even stay there if it was allowed! Everything was so nice, and everyone was so friendly! I received text messages with images and was able to check their Facebook page for even more images. Caesar even came home with report cards! He was on his best behavior, in case you’re wondering!
My absolute favorite part though (and the part that I tell everyone about), was the salt water pool! I am still SO amazed by this darn pool! One of the employees was telling me that the salt water is better for their skin.
Friends in the Fort Knox area, if you need to board your pet, take a look at Sam Russell’s!
I’m happy to report that camping wasn’t a disaster. It’s been about 20 years since I’ve camped, so I was pretty worried. We found a decent tent on Amazon that held up to the rain and we brought along our good air mattress. Temperatures were pretty mild, so I wasn’t sweating my ass off. Always a plus!
We had an amazing weekend catching up with our friends and probably drinking too much beer. The kids had a blast hanging out with their friends too!
Oh, and hey! We got a new car! Our Tahoe was 12 years old, so it was time! Even though she still ran pretty well, there were a few issues and at this point, it wasn’t worth it to keep putting money into her. We used the USAA program, which many had recommended. I think it went pretty smoothly(?). This was my first time buying from a dealership, so I don’t really have past experiences to compare to. My only other car buying experience was a shady Craigslist deal.
The new family bus is an Expedition EL, which is roughly 2 ft. longer than my Tahoe. I haven’t looked up the width, but it feels wider too. Or maybe I’m just terrible at parking it. Hopefully, practice makes perfect.
Earlier this summer, we finally had the speedometer (and all those other gauges) fixed. They hadn’t worked for nearly 5 years, so I had been driving around with no idea how fast I was going or how hot my engine was running. Still, none of the lights behind the radio or AC controls worked, so it was difficult to control those in the dark.
While we were camping, the unlock button fell out of the key fob, and that was basically the last straw for me. I have no desire to unlock doors with keys. #firstworldproblems
But seriously, the heat would take like 20 minutes to start pumping and with a 5 minute drive to each of the girls’ schools, I didn’t want them freezing the entire ride. Never mind the fact that the heat didn’t even work in the backseat. On top of that, the Tahoe only had front wheel drive, and with this winter being my first time driving in snow/ice I want to take no chances.
And speaking of winter… We got the gas set up for our fireplace today! I’ve never had a fireplace before, which made this super exciting. I had the gas guys teach me how to use the system and answer all of my ridiculous questions. Good news guys, the house shouldn’t explode if I leave the pilot light on when I head to the grocery store!
The week started out great and should continue on pretty well! We’ll be back to after school practices tomorrow and Veronica has a Friday night football game for cheer.
How is your week going so far?
