A LONG Look at Our Weekend
This weekend may very well have been the one that changed my feelings towards Kentucky. I’m still coming off of my “I might like this place” high from the weekend. With my parents visiting, we got out of the house to do some activities in our area.
Saturday morning was slow moving, with us mostly taking care of stuff around the house. What’s nice about having my parents visit, is that we always get a ton of housework done that John and I are otherwise too lazy busy to do.
Around noon we hoped in the car and drove up to float on a lazy river. I had discovered this river as we were driving home from Louisville one weekend and I looked out my window over the side of a bridge and saw a river littered with floats. I immediately looked it up on Yelp and Google, but people don’t seem to Yelp or have websites for businesses here, so I had to take to Facebook.
Facebook didn’t have the best information, other than pricing, so we kinda just winged it. The whole trip felt like winging it, actually.
After waiting in several painfully long lines, we were floating! The river wasn’t moving much, so there was also some paddling at points. With a cooler full of beers and the girls in life jackets, we spent roughly 3 hours soaking up the sun from the water. It was no Hawaii, but I’ll take it!
That evening, John and I went out for a date night! Woo! I haven’t searched for a babysitter yet, and it usually takes me a while to find one when we PCS. Grandparents are the BEST babysitters though, so we took advantage.
This date night almost didn’t happen, because every idea we had fell through. We wanted to try axe throwing, but their Facebook and website were kind of misleading. They’re not actually open, even though they tell you to make a reservation to throw TODAY! Next option was blowing glass, but when we called to make that reservation, the employee scheduled to work on date night wasn’t experienced enough to make the glasses that we were wanting to make. Bummer, but now we have two super fun date night options to consider for the future!
So. What did we ended up doing for date night? The gun range. My brother teased that it was redneck AF, but when in Kentucky..
The last few times I’ve shot, they’ve been military guns, which seem slightly more complicated than civilian guns, so I was nervous. This was simple though. Pop in the magazine, pull the slide, and fire your shots. John and I had an absolute blast! The guys working there were so friendly and helpful!
I may or may not have hit the center of the target more times than my husband, but who’s counting?!
The shooting range was followed by a trip to Home Depot to pick up some lumber for a table John is building me. It’s the first project on using the miter saw that I got him for Father’s Day, and so far it’s coming out great! He spent some time Sunday morning and this evening working on it, and I’d say he’s over halfway done putting it all together. I’ll stain it myself eventually. When I decide how I want it to look.
Sunday afternoon we took a trip up to the Jim Beam distillery for a tour. I cannot stand the taste of bourbon (especially after my birthday this year), but this tour was great even if you’re not a drinker.
The entire property was absolutely gorgeous and so easy to photograph! The tour itself included a ton of really interesting information with a hands on look at how bourbon is made. John practically bathed in the stuff. He even got to bottle and seal his very own bottle of Knob Creek. At the end, I happily handed my 3 sample shots to John and assumed my role as DD.
Today was consumed with lots of yard work. I wish I was better at taking before pictures, because we’re making some great progress!
I got our mailbox painted, since it was looking faded and rusty. Plus, I FINALLY found the power cord for my Cricut and I was able to cut out some nice, new, HUGE numbers for our mailbox. FedEx has no excuse to ever miss my house again!
