Frosty Breath Dog Treats

When I first developed this dog treat recipe, I was certain it was going to be a failure. Why? Because I tried to hand one to Caesar, and he wasn’t having it. All I could think was, “did I really just waste all this time making and freezing these things for him to hate them?!”
However, once I tossed one in his empty food bowl, he was ALL about them! Phew!
I love offering frozen treats in the summer months. And hey, a bit of coldness certainly doesn’t hurt that hot breath! LOL
Due to traveling some lately and being in close quarters with my furry friend, I knew his breath needed some help! Even just occasional snuggles on the couch sometimes have me turning up my nose!
While these doggy breath mints won’t have your pet’s breath smelling like peppermint, the ingredients certainly help with stinky dog breath! The coconut oil, with antibacterial properties, and herbs work to freshen. The coconut oil is also great for their coat and skin, plus aids in digestion.
Just one word of caution though! Always check with your vet before introducing new food items to your pet! At 75 pounds, Caesar can have much more coconut oil (and herbs) than a dog of say, 15 pounds would be able to. I used these molds to freeze the treats. For smaller dogs, something this size might be more ideal.
One more tidbit to note, is that you want to find a broth that DOES NOT contain onion. Onion is toxic to dogs, and builds up in their system over time. After searching the grocery store shelves, I ended up with this Campbell’s broth.
Frosty Breath Dog Treats
A frozen dog treat with coconut oil and herbs to improve you dog's breath!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup chicken broth, no onion, warm
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup mint
- 1/2 cup parsley
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the coconut oil and chicken broth. The coconut oil should be completely liquefied.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the blender and pulse until smooth.
- Evenly distribute the mixture into each well of your mold. Transfer mold to the freezer and freeze for at least 6 hours, or until completely frozen.
- Store in an airtight container in the freezer.
Notes
The herb measurements don't have to be exact. A fistful of each is fine.
