Piecing Together Memories
There is probably nothing as bittersweet as having your last baby. You’re finally one step closer to parental freedom, all whilst experiencing your last firsts. When I was pregnant with Juliana, I was so excited to finally be able to get rid of high chairs and clothes and bouncy seats, as she outgrew them. Now that we’re there, I’m having a hard time letting go. (Ugly crying as I type..)
Just before Christmas, I finally started donating the boxes upon boxes of baby clothes that no longer fit the girls. Most of the little articles of clothes have been worn by all three of my little ladies, so I carefully went through each piece and set aside a few of my favorites.
Well, I though it was a few. As I was going through everything I kept over the weekend, I realized there was a little more than just a few pieces. My intention was to make myself a little quilt, but it’s looking like I may have saved enough clothes to cover a king-sized bed!
Sometime down the road, I’ll sit in a corner and cry and cut. Probably when the girls are at school, so they can’t ask me what’s wrong, and John is at work, so he doesn’t think I’m any crazier than he already knows I am.
I sew pretty well, but I’ve never made a quilt before, so my biggest fear is tearing up all these little outfits and not being able to do anything with them. Luckily, I should have two sides from each garment to work with. Plus, as a safety, I do plan on stashing an item or two away in each girls’ baby box.
