Lana’i
As part of our trip to Maui, John and I also spent a morning on the neighboring island of Lana’i. The couple of hours that we spent on Lana’i were mostly spent at the beach, although we did try to hangout at the Four Season near the beach we were at, but they were closed for renovations.
We took the 45 minute journey by ferry out of Lahaina, Maui for $50 (with military discount) to a port on the coast of Lana’i. Since it’s winter time, our sailing was surrounded by tons of the migrating humpback whales! This ferry ride definitely beat out the whale watching cruise that we took last year!
Upon arriving to the port on Lana’i, John and I hiked for about a mile to the beach. Since we got there pretty early, there was hardly anyone else around. We were able to get situated beneath the shade of a couple of palm trees. The only thing that could have made the experience any better would have been tropical drinks in our hands.
After lounging for a while, we hit the water to cool off. Honestly, there is nothing like the gorgeous water in Hawaii. Crystal clear and just the right temperature. As we were swimming around, we noticed dolphin out a little ways from us jumping out of the water. Seriously! Such neat marine life on this little trip.
Although there wasn’t a whole lot to do in the area that we visited, I’m glad we made the trip and checked another Hawaiian island off of our travel list!
