The World’s Largest Maze
With as small as the Hawaiian Islands are, it’s surprising to learn that the world’s largest permanent hedge maze is located on the island of Oahu. Just a few miles up the road from our house, the maze is located at the Dole pineapple plantation.
For our family activity over the weekend, we took the short trip to the plantation to give the maze a run. I’ve never done any sort of maze before, so I was all about it. We had a coupon for two free children’s admissions, so even if it sucked, it wouldn’t have been a huge loss.
When we bought our tickets, we learned that the maze has eight little stations inside. You’re supposed to use the map to navigate to each station, where you trace the image onto your card. You have the option in the beginning to time stamp your card, in order to know how quickly you made it through. There were signs at the beginning for people who completed the maze in seven minutes. They must have cheated, because even with John’s amazing land nav skills, it took us an hour.
Thankfully, the sky was somewhat cloudy, because if the sun would have been out, I’m pretty sure we would have baked to death, right there between the hibiscus plants.
About half way through, the girls were over it. We kept promising Dole Whip at the end, but with three stations left to go, even I was starting to get tired. World’s largest maze alright! Not that I’ve ever done any other maze to compare it to.
Fifty nine minutes from when my great idea began, we were done and headed for some delicious whip! The first time I ever tried Dole Whip, I hated it. This time around, it was pretty good! Juli even had a little taste.
