Target Towel Apple Crisp

You know those fancy towels with recipes printed on to them? For the longest time, I’ve wanted some of those. I even considered making my own, but couldn’t decide on a recipe, so I never followed through.

Fast forward to recently, when Target had these towels hanging on an end cap in the kitchen area. I knew I had to get one. Really, I wanted the apple crisp and the pumpkin bread one, but since I already had enough in my cart, I settled on the apple crisp.

When we went to the Oktoberfest party early this month, one of the dishes I chose to bring along with me was the apple crisp. It’s been a long while since I’ve made an apple crisp but the recipe on the towel looked legit. I mean, it’s kinda like the internet, right? You can’t print something on a towel if it isn’t true..!

So I started peeling and coring and slicing apples. Nothing too difficult about that.. They went into a glass baking dish that I had greased with butter.

Then came the crisp topping part. Flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon.. No big deal. But then the nutmeg. Oh my, the nutmeg! The scent of it was overwhelming. Damn it Alex! The towel lied! There is no way you can eat something that smells that pungent! I was convinced that dessert was ruined!

Without tasting, I sprinkled the topping on the apples and let it bake. I had no time to start over, so whatever baked up was going to have to do.

After feasting on sausage and pretzels, it was time to dig into dessert. The crisp had already been cut into before I got to it and no one had keeled over, so I figured we were in the clear. In fact, it ended up being quite tasty!Recipe for apple crisp found on Threshold flour sack towel from Target
