My Huge Moving Mistake

It’s our turn to host football at our house this weekend, and I can’t say that I’m all that excited. Normally, I would be. Food, friends, and football, you really can’t go wrong there. However, in an effort to make our lives easier, Hubs and I made a big boo-boo when we moved to Missouri.

Before leaving Georgia, Husbter and I decided that we would pack everything that we would need for day to day life ourselves, and let the movers handle everything else. When the movers arrived to deliver our house hold goods, just about everything that wasn’t furniture went straight into the garage in it’s box. We rented a small townhouse, because after all most of our stuff is packed away.

This is our garage. The entire thing is literally filled wall to wall, floor to ceiling with boxes.

In all honesty, I didn’t realize how long six months really was. Half a year without inviting anyone over? Yeah, that’s not happening. So now, armed solely with a Crock Pot, one 4-quart pot, a frying pan, an 8×8 dish, and two cookie sheets, I’m making Saturday happen. I’m a little nervous, since we don’t have any serving dishes or utensils, but I’ll probably spend a few bucks at the dollar store and pick up some cheap plastic ones. I just hope that everyone fits into our living room. Boy, this makes me miss our house in Georgia!

Although, that won’t be happening, with enough beer, I don’t think anyone will notice. And I learned a BIG lesson. Next time the movers will be handling it all, and it’s all getting unpacked. Even if I don’t think I’ll need it. When the time comes to pack it up again, the movers will take care of that.

Love, Alex

  1. We did the same thing when we moved around in Arizona while my husband was on recruiting. Your garage looks all too familiar to me! Thankfully we came to the same conclusion, let the movers handle it all! haha

  2. You got this, girl! If you need more dishes to cook IN, buy some of those aluminum pans for cheap at the Dollar Store. They aren’t the prettiest, but depending on what the food is, it can be served in those, as well.

  3. We are moving from Georgia in a few weeks and we are having the movers take most everything! Any tips? This is our first PCS. We are filling our vehicles with the essentials, but we aren’t planning on taking a trailer or anything like that. We will have a week in temporary lodging and then who knows how long until HHG come to our new house!
