Monday Morning Reflections
Hello, everyone!
What a crazy weekend! I had intended to post on Thursday/Friday but with Irma headed straight for my hometown, I was too busy panicking. Luckily, by Friday evening, it was apparent that she wasn’t going to have too much of an impact on Miami, and I was able to relax a bit and get on with the weekend.
This is our first year participating in sports on-post, so we attended the CYS opening ceremony on Saturday morning. They lined up all the soccer players, cheerleaders, and football players, and introduced each team. We had some time to kill following the ceremony, so we came home for lunch and so that Adri could get ready for her soccer game.
The soccer game started at 1:00, with 5 minutes intervals, so we were out of there pretty quickly. Watching a bunch of 5 year-olds chase after a ball might be the most adorable thing ever! Her team won, 4-2. They have some pretty outstanding players, and Adri is getting pretty good herself!
Following the game, we made a trip to Louisville to get some shopping done. We have a camping trip coming up in October, so we got each of the girls a sleeping bag. Pink butterflies, of course! We always made stops at Whole Foods for mochi ice cream (!!!) and Trader Joe’s for a case of wine for $36. I love TJ’s merlot and you can’t beat that price!
Oh! And we FINALLY got the cornhole boards finished. For real, for real! The building part only took a couple of hours, but holy cow.. the painting! Brush on one color, wait for it to dry, do another coat, wait for it to dry, do a different color. Lather, rinse, repeat. So now the legs are on, everything is sealed and protected. John even attached a bottle open for those instances where you NEED to open your beer mid-game.
As usual, Sunday was a pretty lazy day! I did some cleaning up around the house and waiting to hear from the parentals. Although Irma didn’t cause catastrophic damage in Miami, there were a few trees and power lines down around my parents’ house. Electricity and cell phones were down, so my genius mom called me from her car. I guess those work on satellite or something?
Anyway, the parentals are doing well. My sister is also good, and using a generator to power the wifi her house. My brother is an EMT who had to work, but last I spoke to him, they were stopping operations until the weather was safe again.
Hope your week is off to a great start!
Don’t forget to take a moment today to reflect on the day that changed all of our lives 16 years ago. It’s almost impossible to believe that it’s already been 16 years!
