Cheers to the (Long) Weekend!

Hellooo long weekend!

If there’s one thing I love about the Army, it’s the abundance of 4-day weekends! In the past, John has always had at least one 4-day weekend a month. In Georgia, they had them for EVERYTHING. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and especially St. Patrick’s Day! With him working at HRC now, the days off are fewer and further in between (like they recently hit 600 days accident free and I don’t recall hearing about a DONSA). But… He is home for this weekend! Yay!

I’m not sure what our plans are yet, but I’m sure they’ll include some sort of home improvement or woodworking project. Come to think of it, we have some cornhole boards that need painting! We also have a minor concern about another one of our toilets leaking through the floor. Luckily, the last toilet leak was simply caused by the wax ring underneath it going bad, which is hopefully the case this time around. homemade corn hole boards being finished up!

I’m also inspired to get some meal planning done. Jen’s meal planning post has given me tons of ideas! The girls have soccer and cheerleading at an awkward time during the week, which has made dinner a bit of a challenge. I’ve been setting my Instant Pot to cook just before we leave the house, and letting it naturally depressurize while we’re gone. We get home right around bedtime, so it’s a rush to eat, shower, then get in bed. Can’t say I’m a fan of the hecticness, but the girls do love their activities!

In an effort to cut down on some other hecticness, I’ve started a new after school routine with the girls. Believe it or not, it was my single, doesn’t-have-kids-of-her-own, friend that was visiting this past week that inspired it! We’ve been using the routine for the last few days and it’s been working pretty well for us! Not sure how we’ll manage today, since it’s raining like crazy. I’ve been having the girls run around for half an hour before snack and homework, to work off some energy. Maybe I’ll let them out anyway and consider it their shower for the day.

And just one more thought before I go. Anyone else super pumped for fall?! I mean, today is basically the first day, right?! With the crappy weather this weekend, I’ll be busting out my favorite autumnal recipes! The high for today is like 61, so bring on ALL the chili and beer bread!

If you’ve stuck around thus far, thank you! I’m hoping to start posting more consistently starting next week, since we’re all done with visitors for a while!

Have a great weekend!
