Military Spouse Appreciation Day Link-Up

Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day, ladies and gentlemen!

I am oh so slowly easing back into blogging after our PCS from Hawaii to Fort Knox. What better way than with a military related post! Even better that the thinking has all been done for me by Jen & Amanda! Thanks, ladies!

Tell us about yourself and your blog.

HEYY! My name is Alex, and Munchkins and the Military is my little home on the internet. I’ll be 3o (!!!) later this month. I’m a mom to three little human and one extra needy dog. My husband and I met in college via sorority and fraternity life. We celebrated 8 years of marriage at the beginning of this month!

I started this blog almost exactly 5 years ago, while John (the hubs, obviously) was deployed to Afghanistan, as a way to document our lives and share ideas. You can find a lot of those same things on my blog now. I love sharing recipes, DIY and craft projects, and general posts about our lives.

What branch of military are you affiliated with?

I’m an Army wife.

What is one thing you enjoy about the military lifestyle?

Honestly, I can’t pick just one thing that I enjoy about military life, so I’m going to hit you with a few.

I love having the opportunity to move every few years and experience different cultures and parts of our country. That itch to move gets me every couple of years, but the Army takes care of that!

I love getting to create life-long friendships at each of our new duty stations. Bonus points for being able to stay with friends for free along our PCS road trips!

I also love the security that my husband’s job provides. I guess other than government shutdowns, we always know that a paycheck is coming, and that John can’t just be laid-off on a Friday afternoon.

Oh, and Tricare. Yes, I love Tricare. I know people love to complain about it, but have you seen civilian health insurance premiums?!

What advice would you give other spouses who are new?

It won’t always be fun. It won’t always be easy. But there will always be someone who will understand what you’re going through. We were all new military spouses once.

Where have you been stationed?

We’re currently at Fort Knox, Kentucky. We arrived here last month from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii (someone take me back, please!). Before that we were stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. And before that, we were at Fort Stewart, in Georgia.

Do you work, go to school, volunteer, or stay home?

I do a little working from home. Previously, I was very active in the FRG and at school, but now that we’re just getting settled, I’m enjoying the break from volunteer life.
