Homemade Doggy Breath Treats

It’s time for another dog treat recipe! These are probably my favorite posts to share, and are the most popular among readers as well! We sure do love our dogs!

This recipe is great, because it’s relatively easy. Not much measuring, and I just tossed the ingredients in my food processor and mix. Easy peasy!

Freshen up your furry friend's breath with these simple homemade doggy breath treats!

I got the idea for these doggy breath treats around Christmas time. We bought Caesar some treats from the store. As I was reading the ingredients on the back, I noticed that chick peas were the first ingredient. Chick peas as a base?! What?! Why did I never think of that?!

The girls got a kick out of the beans being shaped like butts. Their words, not mine!

Basically, doggy hummus. But not really! Hummus can actually be dangerous to dogs, because of the garlic in it! Don’t feed your dogs actual hummus!

Anyway, at Caesar’s last check up, the vet proudly announced that he had fantastic looking teeth. However, homeboy’s breath is kickin’! After some research, I’ve found that parsley is fantastic for freshening breath. It also has vitamins A and C along with antioxidants!

I tossed in some mint also, just for good measure. Not only does mint smell good, but it helps with doggy tummy troubles.

One word of caution though. Both parsley and mint can be harmful if consumed in large quantities. I was overly cautious with the amount of herbs that went into this recipe. These are the molds that I used for my 85 pound lap dog. I’d recommend making smaller treats for smaller dogs. Regardless, always check with your vet before feeding your pup people food.

After baking, Caesar devoured these treats. Even my 5 year old was crazy about them! This recipe only yielded 9 treats, but considering you’re only using one or two a day, I felt this was the perfect amount to reduce waste from treats going bad after too long.
