5 Reasons To Be Grateful on Thanksgiving

Gratitude is an important part of an everyday routine, and Thanksgiving is the holiday where you can share your thanks with family at the dinner table. While you should tell your loved ones as often as possible how you are grateful everyday in your life, we sometimes forget to do this. Here are a few reasons to be grateful for this holiday season.

Why You Should Be Thankful This Thanksgiving

Togetherness. Being with friends and family is an important part of thankfulness for Thanksgiving. You are usually able to spend more time with loved ones during the holidays due to most businesses closing so not as many people are working. Take a few minutes to appreciate the fact that everyone can get together and have a holiday meal. Share your gratitudes with everyone at the table by writing your blessings on colorful slips of paper to display in a mason jar. Or, you can simply go around the table and share your messages one at a time.

Celebrate being with one another by laughing, joking, and playing games with your Thanksgiving guests. Wear silly holiday hats, sign up to run a Turkey Trot in the morning, and take lots of photos. Cherish these moments!

Food. This is an obvious blessing in your life, but sometimes we neglect to appreciate this. Whether you brought a dish yourself, cooked the entire Thanksgiving dinner, or attended a holiday party to celebrate, having basic meal items is a blessing to be thankful for. Remember, not everyone has a meal on Thanksgiving. Appreciate the fact that you do, and if you can, buy extra canned goods or donate your time to a nearby shelter.

Health. If you’re reading this article, you have something to be thankful for. Think about the health of others, and send blessings to those who may be suffering. Consider creating holiday care packages or writing simple notes to those you love.

Work. Whether you’re in school, working a 9-5, or focused on furthering your career, there is nothing wrong with thinking of how you are thankful for steady work. While not everyone may have a job, it is nice to appreciate that it is a blessing to earn a living and support your family in the way that you have chosen. Stay-at-home parents are blessed to be able to stay at home, and those who are out of work know that they will keep hustling to make those ends meet. Give gratitude where it is due.

Your Personal Life. Are you celebrating a wedding, the birth of a child, or perhaps a new car that gets you to work reliably? Consider giving thanks to those things that you have that you may not realize are truly blessings. That Disney vacation you saved for? The palm trees that are in your front yard? Perhaps you find gratitude in having a device to read this article on. Not everyone has the Internet or even a computer. Don’t forget to pay thanks to those “things” that are luxuries and not necessary for our everyday happiness.

If you’re feeling inspired, now is the time to start journaling your gratitudes. Add it to your daily planner or create a special gratitude calendar with your special blessings of the day. Celebrate your life every day.
