Social Media – Stats & Strategy: June 2016
Anyone with a successful blog can tell you that social media plays a major role in their success. For me, Pinterest is my main source of traffic, with an average of 1,500 page views coming to my blog from there daily.
When I decided I wanted to grow my blog at the beginning of this year in hopes of turning it into a business, I knew that social media would have to be where I focused a good amount of my efforts. I started with Pinterest, and have gained nearly 2500 followers there since February. Not bad, huh?!
In February, I started tracking the number of followers on each social media outlet. Now, every 1st of the month, I login and make a note of the current number of followers. Helpful hint: this has also helped me stop checking numbers obsessively throughout the month!
Here is a breakdown of my current followers on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook, along with what I do on a consistent basis to keep engagement up.
Current Followers: 3186
February Followers: 3082
Increase: 104 (+3%)
Strategy: I didn’t do much here. A couple of retweets, but mostly interacting with the people that I normally socialize with on Twitter. In the future, I’ll be making an attempt to follow a handful of new people daily.
Current Followers: 4205
February Followers: 3045
Increase: 1160 (+38%)
Strategy: I continued to do what I wrote about in this Instagram post, along with consistently posting high-quality bright images. Interacting with people on certain hashtags, as well as using hashtags on my posts has helped tremendously! I’ve been lazy with my posting these last couple of weeks though, and I’ve certainly noticed a decrease in new followers.
Current Followers: 4977
February Followers: 2542
Increase: 2435 (+96%)
Strategy: Oh my gosh! I was shocked by growth, considering I mostly pin for myself. This seems to work, however, since a good majority of the topics are related to everyday life (recipes, tips, diy, etc.). I try to pin daily, but there isn’t a set number of pins that I make myself do. For a little bit of an extra boost, I check the “popular” tab and often repin the pins that interest me there. I also make sure to follow anyone that follows me that has 1k+ followers. I don’t know if or how this actually works, but I know it does help me get better content in my feed.
Current Followers: 1416
February Followers: 1281
Increase: 135 (+11%)
Strategy: I have to admit, I cheated on this one. I joined a linkup in April which netted me about 100 new likes. Since then, I’ve been trying to post at least once a day. Sharing post that have been popular on other pages like HuffPost or Buzzfeed usually seem to get the best engagement.
And there you have it! I know if I want to grow more on Twitter and Facebook, I’m going to have to work at. For now though, I’m happy with my growth on Pinterest and the traffic it’s brought to my site!
