Birthday Weekend

I turned 29 yesterday! I made the weekend my own, and spent much of it celebrating. The kids were wild, but I don’t think I would have changed anything!

We kicked off the first day of our 4-day weekend with the end of year luau at Adri’s school. It was a fun little event where the kids performed and the school recognized the graduating kindergarten class. Adri’s little performance was adorable! She was front and center, and did so so well!

Later that afternoon, we welcomed some of John’s Soldiers back from training. They had been gone to the mainland for a month, so we met their bus with a banner and leis.

Following the welcome back, we went and said goodbye to our next door neighbors. They hadn’t even been living there a year, but it was their time to PCS. Veronica and the middle son were in the same kindergarten class and used to all shout at each other over our fence, so I know they’ll miss each other.

That night we welcomed back the second group of Soldiers. A day filled with hellos and goodbyes. It’s the cycle of military life.

Saturday morning was spent at the beach. I finally got the guts to jump off of the rock at Waimea Bay Beach Park. Holy smokes! When you’re up there looking down at the water, it feels like you’re so high. The fall actually wasn’t too terrible though!

That afternoon, I went and got my nails done for date night. You guys, I think I’m in love with my nail guy. A few months back, he suggested that I take off the acrylics that I had been maintaining for a while. Instead, he wanted to go gel polish alone, to allow my nails to get hard and healthy.

This weekend was my third time having him simply apply the gel polish, and I can’t get over how perfect my nails are! I’ve been addicted to biting my nails since I had teeth. I’ve never been able to stop biting until now. My naked nails are gorgeous and long, and the painted ones look like something I’d see on Pinterest or Instagram!

This crappy cell phone pic doesn’t do them justice!

For date night, John made us a reservation at the Haleiwa Beach House. We started out with a pretty awesome waiter, but shortly after ordering our drinks, the queen of snark came over and took over our table. Whomp, whomp! The food was spectacular, and although I’ve heard great things about the doughnuts, I had to try the banana split!

Sunday was spent at a birthday party, followed by our weekly Game of Thrones watch party. I don’t actually watch though. I still can’t get into it.

And that leads us to Monday, my birthday! I woke up to breakfast in bed! Croissants with guava jelly, my favorite! I finally got to open the gifts that had been taunting me from their Amazon boxes all week. John got me Foodie Dice (aff link), and the most amazing tripod ever! We hit the stores, to pick up a few more fun kitchen items, before calling it a day.

And now our summer break starts! This is the first week with the girls out of school. Luckily, John is on leave this week to hopefully help us ease into the routine.

Only three more weeks until I fly home for my best friend‘s wedding!
