Last Day of School Gifts

My first official school year as a mom has come to an end. Today is Veronica’s last day of kindergarten. I’m surprised at just how quickly school year flew by. I still clearly remember trying to prepare for Veronica’s first day and everything that came along with it. Buying a new lunch box, individually labeling an insane amount of crayons, and finding her classroom.

I’m so sad to have to say good-bye to her amazing teacher, while also welcoming summer break with open arms! No more 6:30am alarms!

We’ll also be saying “see ya later,” to many of Veronica’s classmates. Since she goes to school on base, something like 98% of the students at the school are military dependents. Many will be PCSing over the summer. Plus, with 8 kindergarten classes at her school, I’m thinking there’s a slim chance of her being in the same class next year with the majority of her friends from this year.

Whether she ends up seeing her friends next year or not, I wanted to send a little treat for summer break. Since I made them for Adri’s class as well, I wanted to keep the price low. Walmart had 52-packs of sidewalk chalk for under $5 each! I bought two boxes, plus clear treat bags and still managed to stay under $15 for the entire project! I’d call that a win!

For Veronica’s class, we put four chalk pieces in a bag, and for Adri’s we put three. Before placing the chalk into the bags, we sorted it. I instructed the girls to place one dark piece (black, grey, brown, white [I know, not technically dark, but certainly boring]) in each bag and the rest were to be bright ones. I wanted to make sure that no one got stuck with a bag of boring colors.

While the girls did that, I got on the Cricut (if you didn’t already know, I use it for EVERYTHING) and made sticky tags to seal the bags. I got the idea from Pinterest, but all of the tags on Pinterest included a black chalkboard background, and I wasn’t about to waste all of that ink. Regardless, they came out adorably, so I’m sharing that file HERE, so that others can make their own bags!

Oh! And this reminds me.. I better make one of those last day of school printouts for photos this afternoon!
