Camo Cookies
Not going to lie.. The FRG program for John’s company has gotten off to somewhat of a rough start. At least for me it has. The participation just isn’t there and regardless of what I do, I can’t seem to be able to get people on board. Similar to my first FRG experience, we’re pretty much trying to start the program from the ground up.
With my first go at FRG leader, I was a brand new Army wife. John’s commander had a dinner at her house for the platoon sergeants and leaders. As we were leaving the house, she asked if I’d consider being her leader. All of my knowledge of the Army, at that point, had come from watching Army Wives on Lifetime. I’m not joking.
I agreed, and slowly but surely got things running. Even then, with literally zero experience, I had strong consistent numbers. Spouses would show up to meetings and events and volunteer with what ever it was that was needed.
This time it’s a little different. I’ve made phone calls, text messages, emails, Facebook reminders, but I’m not getting any feedback. I’m not quite sure what people need or want. We’re only two months into everything, but it’s become frustrating.
As an attempt to get people on board, I made some cookies and dropped them off for the unit. Feed them and they will come, right? I was inspired by the Earth cookies that I made for the Miles From Tomorrowland party, so I tried my hand at making a camo version.
Camo Cookies
Ingredients
- Sugar Cookie Dough
- Food Coloring
Instructions
- Start off with your basic sugar cookie dough.
- Divide the dough into three equal-ish parts (it doesn't have to be exact) each in their own bowl.
- Add your desired food coloring to each bowl and mix well. I did: light brown, medium brown, and olive green.
- Allow dough to chill in the refrigerator for about an hour.
- Take a small pinch of each color and lightly roll into a ball.
- Place each ball on the cookie sheet and bake and cool according to the directions for your dough.
- Return the dough to the fridge between batches, or if you notice that it begins to get too sticky.
As you can see, they weren’t the prettiest, but they were delicious! I dropped them off around the unit, and John tells me that they were gone by the end of the day. And I made A LOT!
So, here’s to hoping I buttered up at least a few Soldiers and can get some help with attendance at our next FRG meeting.
