The Perfect Homemade Pizza

Weekends and pizza. They just go together perfectly, amiright? For almost as long as we’ve been married, John and I have been making homemade pizza. Sure, delivery is nice, but there’s something about making your pizza from scratch that is more rewarding.

Although our homemade pizzas were usually pretty delicious, there was just something about the crust that just wasn’t quite perfect. It took nearly five years for me to perfect our pizzas, but now that I figured it out, I’ll gladly make my own pizza from scratch. And I do. Nearly every weekend.

How to get the perfect homemade pizza:

  • Thanks to Bobby Flay, I learned that you need a hot hot oven. I preheat mine to 500 degrees.
  • A nice thin dough on the bottom with ensure that the crust cooks all the way through and can support all your toppings. I like to spread the dough in my cast iron skillet to get the perfect circle shape, nice thin bottom, and big puffy crusts.
  • Through lots of trial and error, I realized that less sauce and less cheese will get you perfect results every time. About 1/4 cup of sauce and 3/4 cup of cheese are the perfect amount.

Another great thing about homemade pizza is that it can easily come together using ingredients that I always have around the house. The dough is so easy to make and for super cheap!
