Ombre Tie Dyed Beach Towels

Memorial Day may have been the unofficial beginning of summer, but this Sunday marks the actual start of endless sunshine and outdoor fun. For many, this means some time at the beach, pool, or lake. For those of use lucky enough to live in Hawaii, it means even more time at the beach. And what is the one thing you absolutely need at the beach? A towel! So why not tie dye your summer and create a pretty ombre designed towel?!
These towels were super easy to create and with virtually no mess at all. I used Tulip’s One-Step Tie-Dye Kit along with spray bottles to spray dye onto my towels. I love how they turned out and can’t wait to put them to use this summer!
What you’ll need:
- White towels
- Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit
- Water
- Spray bottles
- Large trash bags
Directions:
Start out with nice clean towels. Wash them without using fabric softeners in the washer or dryer. Cut your trash bag(s) open to cover your table and lay your towel flat over the covered table.
Select the two (or more) colors that you want to use for your towels. Add water to the bottles up to the line and give them a good shake to completely dissolve the powder. The color starts to lose it’s concentration after about 45 minutes, so only mix the colors that you plan on using right away.
Once the colors are mixed, pour each color into it’s own spray bottle. The Tulip bottles make it so so easy to squirt the mixed dye into your bottles with zero mess! The kit even includes plenty of gloves to keep your hands nice and clean.
Start on one end of the towel and start spraying. You’ll want to completely saturate the outer edge with color and progressively spray a little bit lighter as you approach the middle of the towel. The nice thing about the towel is that the fibers will catch the color at the top, so there will be plenty of white showing through on the lightly sprayed areas, giving you the perfect ombre look!
Repeat this step again on the other side of your towel with your second color of choice. The great thing about the ombre look, is that if you begin to run out of dye before reaching the center of the towel, you can add a little bit of water to your spray bottle without ruining the look. Even better is that Veronica was able to help. If a five year old can do it, so can you!
Once you reach your desired look, roll the towel into itself and wrap with plastic (an extra trash bag was perfect for this). I let my towels sit over night, before rinsing and then washing in hot water with a tiny bit of soap.
