Car Shopping Sucks
It was a blur of a weekend for us! The grand majority of the time was spent either in used car lots or on Craigslist searching for a decent car at a cheap price. My poor Honda was damaged beyond repair, and since we weren’t planning on purchasing a new vehicle until we left the island, we’re just looking to replace it with the amount that our insurance is giving us.
About two weeks ago, a girl backed into John as he was parking for work. According to John and the auto body shop people, the girl driving must have stomped on the gas, because she caused extensive damage to the frame of the car.
Since there was frame damage and the insurance deemed it would cost too much to repair, they considered the car a total loss and will be sending us a check for it’s value. It’s now on us to try to find a comparable car within the budget. Bleh.
The majority of the prices at used car lots were too high. Add to that three whiny kids and you’ve almost got a recipe for a mental breakdown. We’ve had decent luck with Criagslist, and have yet to encounter any weirdos. Sadly, not everyone from Craigslist responds. I’m hoping to find anything acceptable today, as they’re coming to take Ashley Accord.
I’m a bit bummed, considering the Honda was a gift from my parents just before I started senior year of high school. I got it brand new and made just about every dent and ding myself. It’s been a fantastic car for the 11 years that I’ve had it (I feel OLD) and it probably would have lasted another 11.
Ideally, I’d like to find another Accord, since I’ve been satisfied with my experience thus far, but who knows.. Wish me luck on this annoying car search!
