I read somewhere that apparently dogs really like bananas, and I already knew that they liked peanut butter, so why not start there? Bananas are also one of those healthy substitutions that you can make instead of using eggs, which means I was relatively confident that these guys would stay stuck together.
We started with some uncooked oatmeal and ground it to a powder in my NutriBullet using the milling blade. In my stand mixer, I beat a banana and some peanut butter until smooth, before adding in the ground oats.
A riper banana works best for this treat recipe, as they are easiest to mash up, plus they have much more flavor!
I had the girls help me roll out and cut the dough using these cute pet themed cookie cutters. We placed all of the treats on a parchment lined baking sheet and stuck it in the oven for 15 minutes, until the edges started to brown.
I’m ecstatic with how they turned out! The girls and I sampled some and Caesar also seemed to be a fan. I definitely think that the cute cutout shape is part of the reason I like them so much. It almost makes me want to make sugar cookies too. Almost.

It is important to note that when making peanut butter treats for your pet, be sure to check the ingredient label! Be sure to use a peanut butter that does not contain xylitol, as it is harmful to dogs. And always double check with your vet before feeding your pet new foods.

Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats
An easy to make treat for you dog that uses ingredients you probably already have in your home!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups uncooked Oatmeal
- 1 large Banana
- 1/2 cup Peanut Butter, with NO xylitol
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Using a food processor or blender, grind your oats until they're powder.
- In a bowl, beat together the banana and peanut butter until smooth. A few small chunks of banana here and there is ok. The dough should stick together, but shouldn't be sticky.
- Reserve about a tablespoon of ground oatmeal and pour the rest into the banana peanut butter mixture and mix until combined.
- Dust your surface with the reserved ground oatmeal and roll your dough to about a 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut into desired shapes and place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
- Bake treats for approximately 15 minutes, or until the edges start to brown.
- Cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to a week.
Notes
Add additional peanut butter if the dough is too dry or additional oats if too sticky.
Be sure to use a peanut butter that does not contain xylitol, as it is harmful to dogs. Always double check with your vet before feeding your pet new foods.
