Jules’ New Jewels

In Hispanic cultures, you’re pretty much born with earrings in your ears. My ears were pierced shortly after I was born. We had Veronica and Adri’s ears pierced as soon as we could. But for some reason, I was hesitant about piercing Juli’s ears.

It’s crazy, but part of me was worried about what people would think about me impaling my baby’s ears with shiny metal objects. People get so fired up about it that it almost feels like the circumcision or vaccine argument. (BTW, I am SO glad I’ve never had to worry about circumcision!) It’s not like I went and got my baby something permanent like a tattoo. If she decides that she doesn’t like earrings when she’s older, she can easily take them out and let the holes close up.

While John was on Christmas leave, we decide to go and have them done. Though several tears were shed, I took comfort in knowing that it was mainly because John was holding her head still and Juli didn’t do that heartbreaking cry that she does when she’s getting vaccines. Once it was all over, the tears were done and it was like it never happened.juliana-earrings

It’s been a week and a half and we are issue free. I clean Juli’s ears a couple of times a day, and she doesn’t seem to mind. She hasn’t really discovered her ears yet, so tugging the the earrings hasn’t been a problem. I’m so glad that we finally went and had them done. The tiny sparkles make her chubby little face shine just a little extra.
