Eating Healthier in the New Year

One goal that I neglected to mention in my goals for 2015 post from yesterday is eating healthier. It’s something that’s been on my mind for a while now, but I’m having troubles committing. While I scrolling through my newsfeed yesterday, I saw a photo of a lady that drank a gallon of water everyday for a month. The difference was huge! So, I decided that by making some minor changes in our diets, maybe we could see some noticeable results as well.

Prior to getting pregnant with Juli, we were pretty good eaters. We had regular sized portions, and I made some healthier swaps in the ingredients that I used. I used pregnancy as an excuse to eat everything I could. At the moment, I’m using breastfeeding to justify my second helping of dinner. I’m pretty certain that’s the reason I’m having a hard time losing the last 15-20 pounds of baby weight. OK, that’s definitely the reason I’m not losing weight.

As I did my meal planning and shopping list for the week, I thought really hard about some of the simple changes that we used to make. I’d love any suggestions for additional healthy alternatives that I can add to my list.

  • Infused water instead of juice
  • Salads before meals
  • Ground turkey instead of beef
  • Greek yogurt in place of sour cream

This isn’t to say that we’re going to be 100% healthy 100% of the time. After all, I did just get an ice cream maker for Christmas! I’m just hoping that making these small substitutions will allow us to enjoy that occasional ice cream or mug brownie.
