Holy cray cray, Batman! Life has been hectic. Every year, as the holidays approach, I seem to momentarily actually lose control of my life. There are gifts to buy, meals to cook, parties to plan. Add to that a handful of crazy toddlers and you’ve practically got yourself the recipe for a mental breakdown.

As an attempt to maintain a sliver of sanity, I implemented “quiet time” everyday after lunch. It’s a block of one to two hours where I try to get the girls to nap. More often than not, they refuse, so I just ask that they lay quietly in their room watching TV or playing on the iPad. Sometimes I use this time to catch up on chores, but more often than not, I prefer to put up my feet and not do a single thing.

Last week, quiet time allowed me to make shopping lists for Thanksgiving dinner along with a loose idea of what to do for a surprise party coming up. With the girls acting crazy and throwing tantrums, I was exhausted by Friday, which meant it would be a feet up kind of day.

Wana know what make putting my feet up even better? Chocolate. I took a trip to Safeway, where I picked up a copy of People magazine along with a King sized KitKat bar. While the girls were resting, I propped my feet up, started breaking apart chocolate, and reading. In my quest to relax, I even found some great tips for the holidays.

I was able to flip through the entire magazine before I heard the sound of two little feet creeping up behind me. Two feet quickly became four and I figured two pieces of chocolate needed to be sacrificed for the goodness of mom-kind. Good thing it was a KING sized bar!

After the break, it was back to grind and cleaning up the clutter in the guest room so that my mother in law would have a place to sleep when she got here over the weekend.
