Thanksgiving Weekend
After a successful holiday weekend, everyone was back to the grind today! John had Monday off, which after a long weekend away, was perfect for getting settled back at home.
Today, John was back to school and I was off to run errands, starting with elf baskets for the neighbors. One of our super thoughtful neighbors (and her daughter) helped me out over the weekend while we were away. I forgot to bring our elf along on our trip, so they moved her around and sent photos. Talk about life savers!
When we returned home from the trip, our elf was waiting for us with candy cane seeds and a basket full of goodies. I’ll be passing forward the elf basket with a bunch of the fun goodies I picked up today! I also managed to find a few little goodies for our elf to deliver to the girls!
So back to the weekend. We spent the better part of Thanksgiving weekend up in Massachusetts with a good friend of ours! She currently lives in Maryland, but is from Mass., so we all camped out there. During the day, we went down to Boston to do some exploring. John has been a huge fan of the trolley tours in Newport and Salem, so we tried one of those. I have to say, this one wasn’t as great as the others, unfortunately.
Before making our way to hangout with friends in Massachusetts, we made a stop in Plymouth, where the pilgrims landed. We went to Salem for Halloween, so why not Plymouth Rock for Thanksgiving?! While totally underwhelming, it’s neat to be able to say we visited the rock.
We also made a visit to the Pilgrim Hall Museum, where we were able to see items from nearly 400 years ago, as well as learn about the Native Americans. It was a little tough with the kids, but so interesting! Luckily, it’s a smaller museum, so we made it through pretty quickly.
Between the rock and museum, we stumbled upon a handful of painted lobsters around town. As soon as we learned there were 26 of them on the #PlymouthLobsterCrawl and they’d be gone soon, John made it his mission to find all of them. ALL. OF. THEM. We grabbed a map from the visitor’s center and he called it “urban orienteering.”
I’ll have to say, trying to find all of the lobsters was a challenge, but it was SO much fun! Most weren’t too far from one another. There were so many beautifully painted ones!
Thanksgiving was spent with our next door neighbor and her family. She’s a Marine, but is from Newport and her family owns a bunch of restaurants here. We had such a fantastic time and the girls had a blast hanging out with their friends.
All in all, it was a fantastic holiday weekend spent with some of our closest friends. Now, bring on Christmas!
