We Got PCS Orders!
It’s officially official! Our little family will be on the move again this summer!
We arrived at Fort Knox a little over a year ago, for a two-year assignment. This summer John has the opportunity to go to school a year earlier than expected though, so we’re jumping at it! The past year in Kentucky has been great, but I’m excited for a change! And to be by the water again. 😉
We’ve known for a little bit, but I’ve waited to say anything, in case plans changed. You know, since the Army loves to change their minds all the time. Even now with orders, plans can change, although not likely.
We’re on a tight schedule, since we plan to be out of our current house in less than 3 weeks! John doesn’t actually report to school until mid-late July, but will be TDY (temporary duty/training) for a bit in between. The girls and I will spend the summer back home in Florida soaking up sunshine and ocean air.
Selling the house just didn’t seem like it was going to work out in our best interest at this time, so we’ll be renting it out. We bought it as a foreclosure, and could have stood to make a tiny bit of money, but the process was going to be too stressful. I have no desire to get a show-ready house and have to leave for actual showings.
Once we move out, our property manager is going to get the walls repainted and the nasty downstairs carpet switched out for vinyl planks. Hopefully, there will be a quick turn around time on those projects, and the house will have tenants in it before July.
The rentals seems to go pretty quickly here (unlike sales) so I’m confident we won’t have any issues filling the house. We currently own a rental property in Georgia, and I’m feeling good about being a landlord again.
Once John is done with school in July, he’ll fly back down to meet me in Miami, and we’ll begin our little road trip up to our new home. We’ve spent a good amount of time hovered over maps and calendars, coming up with the perfect itinerary for this PCS move. I love the planning aspect of all this. Even if none of it will go according to plan.
Oh, and I guess you’re still here wondering where we’re moving to. Come July, our family will be calling Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island home! I am SO excited to be moving to Rhode Island! I’ve been stalking the area for a bit, and can already tell we’re going to have a good time!
I have to admit, I am a bit intimidated by the fact that we’ll be at a Navy base. It took me a little bit to figure out Army life, in terms of medical appointments and CYSS preschool and sports. I’m hoping it’s similar enough that the tradition goes smoothly. If not, I’ll deal with it for a year, and then we’ll be moving AGAIN. Most likely back to the Army side of things!
