This & That
If you don’t blog about your holiday weekend, did it even happen?! I know it’s wayyy late for a Thanksgiving post, but we’ve had so much going on that I HAVE to share!
Last Tuesday we woke up early to make the drive to Virginia to spend Thanksgiving with part of our Hawaii framily. Although it took roughly 9.5 hours to get there, the trip was pretty smooth with one stop about half-way for gas, food, potty. I packed plenty of snacks so we weren’t starving or anything.
Wednesday night, the grownups headed out to DC, where we had dinner, drinks, and a show. I tried oysters for the first time ever. They weren’t as disgusting as I was expecting, since I basically just slurped them down my throat.
Following dinner, we went to Ford’s Theater to watch A Christmas Carol. We sat directly across the theater from where President Lincoln was shot, which was eerie but SO neat! The play was FANTASTIC, which definitely made up for the last less than great play that we all watched together.
It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving Eve, if we didn’t go out for THE BIGGEST BAR NIGHT OF THE YEAAAAAAR! The bar was actually surprisingly empty. Perfect opportunity to FaceTime our moms! LOL
Being the responsible adults that we are, we took an Uber home – which nearly got us killed by turning directly in front of a bus. We were literally inches away from the bike rack on the front of the bus. And now that I think of it, I probably tipped him way too much, considering that little tidbit. All the eye rolls.
The Thanksgiving meal came together surprisingly easily. Aside from getting the turkey started early, I don’t think we really spent too much time in the kitchen. It probably helps that their were two of us getting things prepared.
We made the drive back to Kentucky on Saturday following a workout at the CrossFit gym box. I was hangry and complaining the entire time, but we all survived. The original plan was to come back to KY on Sunday, but we had to shift those plans because on Sunday, John was off to Afghanistan.
It’s just a quick trip, and so far he’s really enjoying his time over there. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to FaceTime or at least text almost daily. While he’s been gone, my littlest buddy has been keeping me company with snuggles at night. But let’s be honest here. She sneaks into my bed nightly, regardless of if John is there or not.
Come Monday morning, I was DYING to get started on a home improvement project that I knew John had zero interest in doing. I was off to the hardware store bright and early to get started! It’s taken a couple of days and a lot more work than I anticipated, but I JUST finished painting our fireplace mantle WHITE!
The mantle was this horrid brown color before and because there was a giant cutout made for a tube TV. It was a complete eyesore. When my dad was here last, he helped me put together a plank panel to cover the hole. The panel didn’t cover as well as I had hoped, so having the whole area painted white is so much more appealing. I peeled the tape off yesterday, and will do a few touch ups today! I’m in love!
I actually remembered to take before & after photos, so I’ll have a post coming soon! I’m mostly just waiting on the paint to dry for a few days, before I start putting decor up.
And that’s more or less it for now! I’m expecting a busy-ish weekend with the girls.
