Christmas Trees on Parade – A Hawaiian Christmas Tree
I know most people get a majority of their Christmas shopping done on Black Friday, but after years of working at the mall, there is only one thing I buy that day. For as long as we’ve been married, it’s been the FR family tradition to pick out our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. Growing up, we always piled into my dads truck to go pick out the perfect tree from the Publix parking lot on this day, so it’s a tradition that has carried on.
I’ve posted a few shots of the tree on social media so far, but I tried to save all the best photos for this post. Today I’m linking up with Tea bunch Christmas Tree Lane as well as a bunch of other bloggers, to show off all of our Christmas trees!
This year, we decided to go with a Hawaiian Christmas tree from a local farm. The huge appeal that real trees have is that piney smell that they bring into the home. Sadly, our naked little tree doesn’t smell like much. Because the branches on the Norfolk pines are so scarce, I’ve always been hesitant to get one. But with this possibly being our last Christmas in Hawaii though, I felt like we had to.
I’ve gotta say, this tree might be the way to go. It actually turned out much cuter than I was expecting. It was a piece of cake to decorate, since we couldn’t use most of our decorations. Instead, we put on all of our personalized ornaments, along with one box of red ornaments. And since I’m a very vanilla person, I only do white twinkling lights on my trees. Easy peasy!
While decorating this tree, I found that stringing the lights from the center of the tree to the end of each branch was the way to go. Go layer by layer of branches, and leave the extra strands on the back, where they won’t be seen.
My mom sends a couple new ornaments for our tree every year, and I have to say, I think Caesar’s is my favorite. I also love that she includes him in all of our family stuff. Like making sure to specify that the check she sent for Christmas gifts was to be spent on Caesar as well.
