Wedding Weekend! (a month later)
Since it’s been exactly a month since my best friend’s wedding, I figured now would finally be a good time to make a post about it.
Since I spent a weekend completely alone on the other side of Florida from my kids for the wedding, I expected to get a ton of blog work done. Nope. I was busy with BFF time and doing wedding things, and that’s sort of where I fell off of the blogging wagon. But more on that later this week! Maybe.
The Friday morning before the wedding, I loaded up my mom’s car and made the 4 hour trip across the state to Anna Maria Island, FL. Thank God for Sam Hunt and his sexy voice for keeping me awake on the drive.
Friday afternoon was spent catching up, swimming, and eating. Probably some drinking in there too.
At the end of the day, I went to bed exhausted, with plans to be up early for breakfast in the morning.
Saturday morning, I met the bride and groom for breakfast with their dog, the best man. It was a laid back and relaxing morning, before the hustle and bustle that was to follow that day.
Back at the hotel, I showered, then made my way to the bridal suite for more boozing and getting ready. The wedding was pretty much completely DIY, so I helped with a few minor things that needed to be done.
At my wedding, my “something borrowed,” came from this same best friend. So naturally, she borrowed these earrings from me, when the ones she planned on wearing broke.
Since it was just the bride, groom, their parents, their sisters, and I attending, the timeline was pretty flexible. First looks happened later than expected, which meant the ceremony was pushed back slightly, but it’s no big deal since everyone was hanging out in one of two hotel rooms.
Finally, when it was time for the wedding, we made our way across the street to the beach. Because the BFF coordinates weddings for a living, she wanted to keep her own wedding pretty simple. I was so blown away by how beautiful a simple beach wedding could be.
The ceremony on the sand was quick, and when it was all done, we made our way to the reception. I may or may not have cried.
At the reception, everything was handled by the caterer and her assistant. Which I guess is easy, when you’re only serving 10 people. The food was so damn good, and not at all the typical wedding food that you’d expect. We went through ALL of the champagne, before calling it quits and heading back to jump in the pool.
Being able to keep the event small and intimate was so nice. If I had to do a re-do, I’d probably copy exactly what she did. It was a gorgeous event with little stress, that didn’t break the bank.
Sunday morning I tossed my bags in the Caddy and headed back to my parents’ house. Accompanied by the sounds of Sam Hunt, of course!
