Teaching Juli to Swim

This post was sponsored by SwimWays as part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central. I received products to facilitate my review.

Just like the ocean surrounds our lives here in Hawaii, much of our lives also revolve around the ocean. Days, and even entire weekends, are often spent soaking up the rays beach side.

When we first moved to Hawaii, one of our biggest goals was to teach the girls how to swim. Growing up, I was always near the water, whether it was on the boat or in the pool. As I got older, I grew to know the importance of water safety, and knowing how to swim.

Now that Juli is approaching an age where she can easily get out of sight and make her way to the water, it’s important for us to make sure she learns to swim. Not only that, but who knows where we’ll end up in a couple of years, and if we’ll have access to pools or open water.

The first time we ever took Juli to the beach, I was sadly disappointed that my little Hawaiian baby had pretty much zero interest in the water. Although we’ve come quite a ways from her first beach trip, she can still be skeptical when it comes to being submerged.

Luckily, with the help of SwimWays, this summer we’ll be working towards getting Juli a little more comfortable in the water and hopefully setting the foundations for learning to swim! SwimWays has been helping teach children to swim for over 40 years with a simple 3-step program.

The Swim Steps 3 Level Program focuses on ways to help make your child feel comfortable, so that they can have fun in the water. Each of the three videos, includes helpful tips to develop your child’s confidence. One of the most important tips in the first step is to not force the child into the water if they’re not ready.

We’ll be using the SwimWays Baby Spring Float, which is available online and in-store at Toys “R” Us, to ease Ju into the water. The float has a low center of gravity, to help avoid tips, and is made of mesh, which allows for closer contact with the water. What’s nice is that the Baby Spring Float is easy to pack, which means taking it with us from beach to beach around the island will be simple!

I’ll be sure to post updates as we progress on Ju’s journey of learning to swim!

Do you have a little one in the process of learning to swim?
