The holidays are quickly approaching. I love giving homemade gifts, but if you worry about them looking cheap and cheesy, like I often do, these glitter dipped mugs and chocolate dipped spoons are the solution for you!

Due to moving every few years, we’ve accumulated quite a few great friends across the country. Add to that John and I’s families, and we’ve got no shortage of people on our Christmas gift list. Typically, I prefer the homemade option for gifts, because not only is it more cost effective, but hand made gifts have that special personal touch.

This year, I’ve started my gift crafting early, with some glitter dipped mugs. These have been a HUGE hit in the crafting groups that I belong to on Facebook, so I knew it would be the perfect option for my friends.

Because these gifts are so easy to make, I even let the girls get in on some of the crafting fun. Oh, and have I mentioned glitter? No way they were going to let me have all the glittery fun without them!

We’re all fans of hot cocoa, and since we included Starbucks Hot Cocoa K-cups in some of the mugs we made, we brewed a few for ourselves, to make the occasion merrier.

Before any of the crafting started, I made a trip to Target to pick up everything I needed for this project. I grabbed a variety of Starbucks Coffees from the grocery section and some plain white mugs from the home goods section. You’ll also need some masking tape, dishwasher safe Mod Podge, and extra fine glitter, if you don’t already have it.

Glitter Dipped Mugs

You’ll Need

  • Plain mugs
  • Masking tape
  • Foam brush
  • Dishwasher safe Mod Podge
  • Extra fine glitter

Directions

  1. Start with clean mugs. Use the masking tape to tape of the area of the mug that you plan to glitter (I used a dry-erase marker to make an even  guideline). Be sure to tape off the mug handle, and leave enough space from the rim of the mug, so your recipient isn’t drinking glitter.
  2. Use a brush to apply a thin even layer of dishwasher safe Mod Podge to the mug.
  3. Over a sheet of paper, sprinkle glitter on the entire Mod Podged surface.
  4. Peel the masking tape off of the mug while it’s still wet. Allow the mug to dry for at least 1-2 hours.
  5. Once dry, apply a thin even coat of Mod Podge over the glitter to seal it. Allow the Mod Podge to cure for at least 28 days before placing the glitter dipped mugs in the dishwasher.

Chocolate Peppermint Dipped Spoons

You’ll Need

  • 1-2 Candy canes
  • Milk chocolate and/or white chocolate chips
  • Disposable spoons
  • Wax paper

Directions

  1. Crush up your candy cane(s). They go a long way, so depending on how many spoons you’re making you should only need one.
  2. In microwave-safe containers heat your chocolate chips for about 20 seconds at a time. Stir after microwaving each time, until smooth.
  3. Dip each spoon in chocolate, until the well is coated. Tap spoons lightly over bowl, to remove excess chocolate.
  4. Place spoons on wax paper, then while chocolate is still soft, sprinkle crushed candy cane pieces on top.
  5. Allow to cool in refrigerator or freezer.

To put the gifts together, I used a few K-cups or Via Instant packets together with two spoons in each of the mugs. I figured the chocolate peppermint spoons would add the perfect amount of festive flavor to the Hot Cocoa and White Chocolate Mochas. Each pretty little gift was then wrapped up in a cellophane bag and was ready to go.

I purposely grabbed three separate Starbucks items, to be able to snag a gift card as well. Get a $5 Starbucks Card e-gift when you purchase 3 or more qualifying Starbucks products. Add to that the stars that come in each package, and I was practically gifting myself free coffee while gifting coffee to my closest friends.
