Sorority Life

I joined a sorority as a freshman in college. At the time, I couldn’t imagine belonging to an organization that would be with me for the rest of my life. Really, I was there for the boys and the parties. #sorrynotsorry

It’s been nearly 10 years since I joined (more on that next month) and sorority life has had more of an impact on me than I could have ever imagined.

As a 4.5 year college student, I was over sorority life during my last semester of college. At that point, I was married and flying to Missouri and Georgia to visit John all the time anyway. So I kinda left, and never looked back.

I mean, many of my closest friends are my sorority sisters and my BFF/V’s God mother is a sister, but I couldn’t bring myself to keep going to events and meetings and recruitment..

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in initiation for the new Phi Mu chapter at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. They called for alums in the area to come help out. This is the first time we’re stationed anywhere with a Phi Mu chapter and since I was free, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to go.

As a result, I met a handful of fellow military wives that are my sorority sisters. We participated in the beautiful ceremony with all of our national officers present and welcomed 65 amazing young ladies into our bond.

Those few hours that I was there, made me realize how much all of those little memories and our bond means. That all of my pledge sisters that are still overly involved aren’t 100% crazy.

Now, as they continue to build the chapter, I’m looking forward to getting involved once again. As they used to say in college, not four years, but for years.
