Crock Pot Kalua Pork Sliders
This blog post was sponsored by KING’S HAWAIIAN® but the opinions are all my own. #KHGameTime
After a fantastically short week (thank you veterans!) the weekend is upon us once again! With the weekend comes football! You can more or less guarantee that our Saturdays during football season are spent in front of the TV, cheering on our favorite teams. At least for the first half of the day.
What’s nice about Hawaii (well, one of the things) is that football is on as soon as you wake up in the morning and it’s over with enough time for you to do something in the evening. Most of the time, this means that our big game day meal is centered around lunch time.
Well, when in Hawaii, do as the Hawaiians, right?! And that’s why Kalua Pork sliders are a favorite game day meal! No need to dig up an imu though, it’s as simple as setting a pork shoulder in the crock pot over night with some bacon and salt.
After 12+ hours of slow cooking, your pork should be perfectly tender and falling apart. Sandwich it between some buttery KING’S HAWAIIAN® Sweet Dinner Rolls from Walmart and pair it with little sweet mango pineapple salsa and you’ve got yourself a winning combination!
For the salsa, I diced and combined:
a pineapple • a mango • two tomatoes
half a red onion • a seeded jalapeno • cilantro
lemon juice • salt
The best thing about serving these effortless sliders, is that it keeps you out of the kitchen and enjoying the game!
For the rest of the game day goodies, I kept it pretty simple. Some chips in a bowl went along perfectly with the extra mango pineapple salsa. I also made cupcakes and decorated them in team colors, blue and gold!
Decor was pretty simple too. Once again, I highlighted team colors with the plates and plasticware. Using a green table cloth and white cutouts, I set up the table to look like a football field. Naturally, the Kalua Pig and KING’S HAWAIIAN® Sweet Dinner Rolls were right on the 50-yard line!
