Let’s Fondue This!

For our first date, John made the huge mistake of introducing me to the Melting Pot. I had never been there or even tried fondue, but since that visit I’ve been hooked! Since it’s kind of expensive to constantly go to the Melting Pot (not that we have one in Hawaii, anyway) making it at home has become the next best thing. Usually, I like to save fondue night for a special occasion, such as our anniversary, but I decided to make it recently since it had been a while since we had had it.

Although we’ve experimented with plenty of liquids and varieties of cheeses, I prefer to keep our fondue recipe relatively simple. Some liquid, some cheese, and the dippers! Most recently we tried a combination of Corona, Swiss and cheddar, which was spectacular! With several different choices for dipping, dinner felt more like snacking. The girls loved the interactive meal, and I loved that it was healthy-ish with plenty of fruits and vegetables for them to dip.

Since it’s been a while since we’ve had fondue, I really had to think about what to dip into it. For whatever reason, all I could come up with was broccoli. After a quick Google search for inspiration, here is what I came up with.

Simple Cheese Fondue

An easy to make fondue recipe that whips up in no time

Ingredients

  • 1 clove Garlic, crushed
  • 12 oz Beer, 1 can or dry White Wine
  • 2 cups Swiss Cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon Flour

Instructions

  1. Start by dropping the crushed clove of garlic into a hot fondue pot. I set mine to 4, as recommended by manufacture instructions.
  2. Pour all of your liquid into the fondue pot and bring to a simmer.
  3. Toss all of your cheeses in a large bowl with the flour.
  4. As the liquid simmers, lower the heat and slowly whisk in your cheese and flour mixture. You may need to increase the heat slightly to get it to melt completely.
  5. Once completely melted, maintain a low temperature to avoid burning the cheese as you eat.
