Celebrating with Vi and Va

Earlier this week, we celebrated Veronica’s fifth birthday. We were in Orlando visiting with John’s mom, so V had the opportunity to celebrate with the cousins that she’s been talking about for the past year and a half. It’s instances like that that really make me miss being away from family.
As part of her birthday celebration, I gifted her a collection of fashion dolls inspired by Latino culture. The dolls, named Viviana and Valentina, or Vi and Va for short, are sisters. They, along with their two cousins Felicia and Roxxi are all best friends, and make up the collection. It was kind of perfect that Veronica had these dolls, considering it was her and her little sister plus their two cousins that made up the group of kids celebrating.
Right away, Veronica was thrilled with the dolls! It just so happened that we were eating empanadas while celebrating with the family, and the Valentina doll came with a little recipe book and a tray of empanadas. Each of the dolls came with a cute little accessory related to their interest, along with a snippet about them and their culture on the back of the box.
So far, we’ve pretty much failed at introducing the girls to our Cuban and Puerto Rican culture, but the dolls were an easy way to help embrace that heritage. The snippets on the back are both in Spanish and English, which makes them perfect for
